Walvis Bay Backyard Tenants is a community-driven organization in Namibia, based in Walvis Bay. We are a collective of residents who refuse to wait for local or national government to provide housing or serviced plots. Recognizing the lengthy delays in government housing and land service delivery, we took matters into our own hands and formed Backyard Tenants Investment

Our organization is committed to applying for land from the Walvis Bay Municipality Council, servicing the land ourselves, and building homes at each member’s own expense. Our current project, allocated by the Council, is Portion 19 at Farm 37, which includes 686 plots. These plots have already been surveyed and are ready for us to service and develop.

We have received numerous inquiries from community members interested in joining our initiative. In response, our leadership has decided to accept new members starting Monday, 22 July 2024. This decision was made after careful consideration and advice to include others who also wish to benefit from our collective efforts.
JOINING FEE!
To join Walvis Bay Backyard Tenants, there is a non-refundable administration fee of N$ 330.00. This fee covers various administrative costs, such as rental fees, ink, and copy paper. Please note that this fee is strictly for administrative purposes and will not be refunded.
Monthly Contributions
As members, we each contribute N$ 380.00 per month. This contribution period is set for 24 months. The funds collected during this time will be used to service the land. After this initial period, we will evaluate the progress of the project and determine if additional contributions are necessary to complete the servicing of the plots.

What we do
At Walvis Bay Backyard Tenants, we empower our community by taking proactive steps to secure housing and land ownership. We apply for land from the Walvis Bay Municipality Council, service the allocated land, and build homes at each member’s own cost. By pooling our resources and working together, we can expedite the process of land development and home construction, bypassing the lengthy delays often associated with government projects. Our current project at Portion 19, Farm 37, includes 686 plots ready for servicing and development. We are dedicated to creating a self-sufficient community where members contribute financially and collaboratively to achieve the common goal of homeownership.
